Council Minutes  November 20, 2024

Present: Jerry Luther, Betty Jane Baranczyk, Marilyn Reichwald, Miles Winkler, Bill Block, Pastor Chris Byars
Guests: Erik & Rachel Knueppel

1) Meeting was called to order by Jerry Luther
2) Devotions: Betty Jane Baranczyk
3) Motion to approve agenda with following addition by Marilyn, Betty Jane, MSC
a. Lock on inner double doors by office
b. Suspend bylaws regarding filling team positions?
4) Communications from attendees and correspondence
a. CYF Report: Training new Sunday School teachers, Advent Cookie Kits again this year
5) Motion to approve Secretary’s Report by Marilyn, Bill, MSC
6) Motion to approve Treasurer’s Report by Miles, Marilyn, MSC
7)President’s Report
a. Hoping giving this year will be better than last year.
b. No complaints!
8) Pastor’s Report
a. Confirmation class is going well
b. Will begin “Crossways”: a 2-year program (60 weeks) for enriching your faith.
c. Advent skits about Gospel writer Matthew writing to our modern-day church
d. The stewardship & Evangelism Team will work with the Cantata
9) Team/Organization Items for Council Action
a. Property & Cemetery: Repairs to cemetery fence have not been going well. The insurance company is giving us the runaround. Jerry is working on it.
b. Nominating Team has begun making calls
10) Old Business: none
11) New Business
a. Motion was made to authorize adding a lock to the inside double doors at the office entrance by Miles, Marilyn, MSC.
b. Is it possible to suspend the church bylaws regarding filling team positions? Will discuss again after nominating team has time to make more calls.
12) Miscellaneous
a. Miles gave a report on the carillon. Sometimes it works but sometimes it doesn’t. He is working on it.
b. Annual Meeting date is January 26, 2025.
c. Finance Team Meeting: Miles, Betty Jane, Jerry, and Pastor Chris on December 1 after church to work on budget
13) Communications from the council: Is there anything discussed at this meeting (dates, decisions, information, etc.) that needs to be told to someone outside of Council? Who will be in charge of telling them?
14) Next meeting Date: December 19 at 7:00 p.m.
