Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6, ESV

The primary duty of every parent is to teach the faith, and one need only do a quick perusal of Scripture to surmise that to be true. That is why every May, we celebrate Stepping Stones Sunday as we focus on the stepping stones of faith. These stepping stones are the promises given by parents at the Baptismal font to ensure that their child will be raised in the Christian faith. We always hope that this will be continued into adulthood. The reality is that our education in the faith is a lifelong pursuit.

It is amazing with each walk through Scripture that I have in my life the things that I find, am reminded of, or gain an even deeper understanding about as I continue to read. One of my favorite things that has come over this year is the reading through Scripture during our Monday Night Bible Study and Adult Sunday School before church services on Sundays. It has been so fulfilling to go through the Word and talk about what we hear and what we may find. Sometimes the greatest learning comes from the questions. Questions allow us to explore and delve deeper into the Word. Yet, we must be mindful that many of the things that we cover may have differing interpretations based on how some theologians have been taught to read the Scriptures, particularly when looking at prophetic writings.

One of the greatest hopes that I hold in the study and development of each person as we read through the Scriptures is that more and more people will grow deeper in their faith and bring that into the home. As we look ahead, my hope is that as each family brings their children to the font and makes the promises of carrying on the faith that more and more regular discussions will arise in the home. As a family rises to raise up one another in the faith of our Lord, it is amazing how the family bond will be strengthened as faith is also strengthened. Let us, as Christians, ever be mindful of the importance of sharing our faith with one another.
